This Letter From the Father Made Everyone of Deepika Emotional at the Filmfares

Dressed in red, Deepika went on stage to take the award which celebrates her stellar performance in Piku, a movie about the relationship of a young woman with her daddy. She felt it was only fitting then to read out a letter from her father, Prakash Padukone, as her acceptance speech.

Deepika read out the letter which talks about his refusal and Mr Padukone’s early badminton days. “There isn’t any substitute for perseverance, hard work, dedication, and passion for what you do. If you love what you do, nothing else matters,” Deepika read out aloud.

In the letter, when a youthful Deepika chose to move to a large city to continue a career in modeling his early fears were additionally expressed by Mr Padukone and later overcoming them. “If you succeeded it’d have made us proud but even if you didn’t you would not have any regrets that you did not attempt,” she read.

“If you sometimes wonder why we refuse to treat you like a star it is because you’re our daughter first and a film star after. The camera that follows you and the arc lights will eventually fade.

Deepika ended her speech with a guarantee to parents all around the world on behalf of all children – words that fetched her tremendous applause from the audience along with a standing ovation from Bajirao Mastani co-star Ranveer Singh.
