Atharvaa’s ‘Kanithan’ box office flick off to decent start in Tamil Nadu

Atharvaa’s “Kanithan” has done pretty well at the box office in Tamil Nadu in its first weekend. The movie was released last Friday, Feb.26 and opened to mixed reviews.

A report on Behindwoods says that “Kanithan” has garnered somewhere between Rs 2.75-3 crore in the first weekend. This is a decent amount for a Tamil film, which does not have some huge star in the cast.
“Kanithan” was released on 175 screens and clashed with other new release Arulnithi-starrer “Aarathu Sinam.” Besides, it faced competition from previous-week’s films like Jayam Ravi’s “Miruthan” and Vijay Sethupathi’s “Sethupathi.”

The Atharvaastarrer movie has done notable business in Chennai in three days. It’s raked in Rs 51.09 lakh from 156 shows, which is considered an above-average opening in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

‘Kanithan’ at international centers

The most recent Tamil movie can barely set the box office on fire at the foreign centers. In the US box office, it made Rs 1.95 lakh from eight screens in its opening weekend, reports Bollywood Hungama. On the other hand, “Aarathu Sinam” accumulated Rs 1.27 lakh from six displays.

“Sethupathi” stays the top picture among the Tamil flicks in the US this weekend. The complete collection of the picture by the end of its second weekend stands at Rs 43.01 lakh.

“Kanithan” amassed Rs 6.01 lakh in the UK. The sector had expected the movie to succeed in Malaysia, but it could get only Rs 2.13 lakh.

Atharvaa’s movie is written and directed by TN Santhosh and bankrolled by top producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu. Catherine Tresa plays the female lead in the movie, which has Bollywood celebrity Tarun Arora in the role of antagonist. YG Mahendra, Manobala, Aadukalam Naren, K Bhagyaraj, Sunder Ramu and others are in the cast.
